A day with the flowers

Growing up, I always dreamt of seeing a very big and pretty tulip garden shown in this song from a Bollywood movie called Silsila. (I am a big Bollywood fan). So last month, I went to this flower show called Floriade in Canberra which is held every year during spring. Though it was nothing like the flower garden in the song, (I believe the song was shot in Holland), it was quite nice with plenty of beautiful flowers. I was also thinking of doing some photo shoots for my blog with the beautiful floral backdrop but the weather was really chilly and there were more people than the flowers, it was so crowed! Nevertheless I enjoyed my day with the flowers and felt really inspired seeing how beautiful they our world look!

Iphonography/Colours/DIY Necklace

I have been using instagram a lot lately and I am kind of blown away by the beautiful pictures people take from a phone camera and post here. All this time, I have only used a DSLR camera to shoot for my blogs and the process is quite time consuming. So, I thought every now and then I should post pictures taken from my trusty iphone and try to blog more regularly. After all, iphonography is a huge craze because of its awesomeness and so much more convenient and instant than professional photography .

How about a Fashion Shower???

As I was taking my shower this evening, I found myself humming this really fun song called Fashion Shower by Anna Dello Russo, the guardian of fashion (well that's what she calls herself in the song). This song is to promote/celebrate her recent collaboration with retail giant H&M and I must say it's quite catchy and entertaining and her Italian accent makes it even cooler.I am huge fan of her eccentric style and fashion sense and this song completely represents her. She is such an inspiration to every fashionista.
Well, enjoy the video and here are the 10 fashion lessons she is trying to teach us in this song.

World Square 9 to 9 Sale event

In the spirit of 30 days of Beauty and Fashion month that started in Sydney this September, World Square partnered with Shop Til You Drop magazine and hosted a fun shopping event with exclusive one day only discounts, free entertainment and more.  I wanted to check out the event so I went there with my partner after work. It was a decent event with a VIP area for people to enjoy live entertainment by contestants from The Voice, free unlimited drinks and food.

Style icon - Iris Afpel

Recently I came across something very interesting or rather say someone very interesting, Iris Afpel; a 91 year old American fashionista. Wikipedia describes her as an American businesswoman, interior designer, and fashion icon but she describes herself as the world's oldest living teenager. Vibrant, flamboyant and full of life, she indeed is like a teenager and her style truly depicts her personality. As I came to know about her, I wanted to know more and more about her and as I did, I totally fell in love with her personality and of course, her style. She is such a strong and inspiring personality and at 91; she beats any other young fashionista by leaps and bounds.

Vogue Fashion Night Out 2012 - an update

Last Thursday, (I know I'm really late with my updates!) Sydney witnessed its 3rd annual Vogue fashion night out (VFNO), a night for shopping, fashion, fun and freebies! I have been attending this event ever since it started and this year was no difference. In fact, I was really looking forward to this year's event as it came up with a new theme with ' Fashion Meets Music ' featuring celebrity songstresses such as Megan Washington, Jessica Mauboy and top few The Voice '12 contestants performing at different venues throughout CBD. I work in CDB so I was already feeling the excitement in the streets as the decorations and preparation commenced from early hours in the afternoon. As soon as I finished my work, I headed towards Martin Place where Miranda Kerr made an appearance at a pop-up store for Kora Organics skincare line. As always she looked million bucks and I loved the floral print dress she wore. As for myself, I wore an animal print black & white shift dress from Zara and matching pumps. To add some colour to my black and white outfit, I added  necklace with neon accents and a neon belt that did a great job cinching my waist and give this rather plain dress some shape.

It was a fun night as me and my girlfriends hoped from one store to the other in search of best bargains, best booze and the best fashion stalking.

The floral print dress

Sign of spring is when flowers start to blossom and that truth holds itself for spring fashion as well. Although floral trend for spring seems to be a no brainer, this season the trend seems to have reached a new height. From bold and bright big prints to pastel and dainty prints, we are seeing floral everywhere; celebrities, runways and on streets. In the spirit of this trend, I took out some of my floral dresses (I already have few in my closets from previous years) and wore one of them during a cultural festival couple of days ago. I paired my dress with dark colors i.e. with burgundy denim jacket (styled here) and black tights, which kind of screams fall rather than spring, maybe I am not ready to give up on those rich and deep fall colors yet. For shoes, I went with my favorite nude ankle booties (styled here and here) and finished off the look with lots of wooden bangles for that bohemian feel. Though floral prints on this dress have dark colors and the background itself is brownish grey, I'm looking forward to style it to create more spring appropriate looks. Hopefully the weather gets warmer in coming days and the next time I wear it, I won't need any tights or boots. Till then, stay stylish!

Hello Spring!

Spring, my most favourite season has finally arrived in Sydney today. Though the weather was not as good and warm as expected, hope it gets better in coming days. I cannot wait to do some posts on spring/summer fashion, featuring current trends, styles and much more. For now, I just wanted to share quick news which is bit personal and has very little to do with fashion/style but, I felt like sharing here in my blog anyways.

Casual comfort

Been lying in bed all day though it's Monday, wasn't feeling very well so didn't end up going to work. Well,I thought of doing a quick post and turn this day into something little more productive. This weekend has been super busy for me, was shooting with a new photographer yesterday and I must say she was quite talented, can't wait to see the photos. Saturday was again a long day, went for shopping, then for a long drive, took some photos for my blog and went out for dinner. Since I knew I was going to be out all day, I wore something very casual and comfortable, it was beautiful a sunny day too.
Here, I am wearing this black and white mini dress over some printed tights, threw on a classic jean jacket which I have had since past 6-7 years (they still fit me and never go out of style). Don't know why but I am into hats lately, here I am wearing this black fedora by Tie Rack and for shoes, I went with the black booties(styled previously here). For jewellery, I went with big silver hoop earrings and black bangles. This outfit is very casual and comfortable and has some chic flare to it.

Having a fashion blog has given me the opportunity to experiment with different clothes and styles that I wouldn't have tried otherwise. I've been playing with different colors, textures, prints and patterns and to create fun and interesting pairings.I recently took out this tweed jacket I had which was lying at the back of my closet and tried paring with few of my favorite and essential wardrobe pieces, turns out it goes with almost everything. Since then I've been wearing this jacket to work, night outs, day outs, well basically everywhere. The fresh lime green color and updated style makes it perfect to fit in today's fashion.

Here, I styled my jacket with a fun and flirty hi- low chiffon skirt. I threw on my black leather boots (previous styled here) as they are super comfortable, stylish; just perfect for chilly winter evenings and super fun to pair along with a feminine & delicate skirt. I am loving the juxtaposition of tweed against chiffon and a feminine skirt against hardy leather boots. For the jewelry, I'm wearing my goldtone cuffs which I absolutely love and  are making a debut on my blog:)
Though Tweed is popularly known for country wear, it's back in fashion and is here to stay. After all, they dress up nicely and  add texture & dimension to any plain outfit. I'll definitely be making more posts on styling this jacket with different outfits.

Stay stylish!

Swing it away

The moment I saw this coat, I wanted to buy it. I loved the design, material, understated colour and the subtle leopard prints. However, the store didn't have it in my size so I had to check out few other stores before I found it in my size. Anyways I finally got it and have been wearing it all the time, it's super easy and versatile to style. Though swing coats may overwhelm small body frame, it can look flattering if paired with fitted skirt or skinny jeans. It’s very feminine & fun to wear and compliments all figures.

Here I paired my swing coat with red skinny jeans (previouly style here ) and black tall leather boots.  Btw these boots are from style tread  that I won through one of my previous blogposts. I love pairing shades of red with leopard print as it adds a very fun and adventurous vibe to the outfit. I completed the look with layers of pearl necklace and 50’s hair & make-up.
Thanks for reading.

Playing dress up

I love costume parties because it is so much fun to see everyone dress up as per the theme; however it can be quite stressful trying to figure what you are going to wear and arrange everything accordingly.
Last Saturday, I went to one of my friend's birthday party, and yes, it was a theme party where we had to dress up as music stars.

After thinking for days and browsing continously through the net for inspirations, I chose to dress up as Amy Winehouse. Though she is not my favourite singer or music Idol, I find her style quite unique and fascinating, also somewhat easy to replicate (till I tried). In my attempt to replicate her hairstyle, I failed miserably and that's when I gave up the idea of dressing up as Amy and opted for Adele instead. I love Adele as a singer, her face is stunning and I love her 60's glamour hairdo and makeup so it was a perfect choice for me. Dressing up as Adele was quite easy as I only needed a black dress and a fabulous set of earrings. Since I had few black dresses in my closet, I had to pick from one of them but I ended up buying a new one anyway. Since I didn't have enough time, I didn't get a chance to buy a blonde wig so I had to work with my black hair. So here I am dressed up as Adele with my brown complexion and black hair.

Our birthday girl (she was featured on my blog post previously) was dressed up as Lady Gaga which she pulled it off quite well, especially her costume was just too perfect. Rest of my other friends were quite good too. We had people dressed up as Niki Minaj, Janet Jackson, Amy Winehouse (Luckily I changed my mind otherwise there would have been two Amys) Rihana, Kate Perry and few more music stars. It was such a fun night and we all enjoyed a lot.

Thanks for stopping by!

Trends meet Timeless

In my last post, I admitted my lust for shoes and how I love adding new pairs to my collection! I knew I was missing a must have item for every women’s shoes collection; a pair of black pumps and  finally brought these babies home Black pumps go with anything and everything and is perfect for all occasion. It’s like the LBD of accessories; every woman needs to have a pair in their closet.  Anyways, I bought these patent leather pumps along with some other shoes (which you can see here) from RMK last month. I got it in patent leather because it’s currently in trend and gives a modern vibe to this timeless pair of heels. I thought I would start off with the basic and styled these heels with a button up chiffon shirt and printed leggings.

Since the day was quite warm, I was just wearing a black shirt in similar design like my white one which I styled here with a pair of printed black and white leggings. I added  cuff and earrings in black and goldtone colours  from Diva and a spiky goldtone necklace for some drama.  I love how these accessories take my simple and basic outfit to a whole new level, giving it an edge rocker chic glam!

I quite like the overall outcome of this look, which can be simply achieved by mixing timeless pieces with trendy ones.  After all, style is all about combining unusual pieces together to create an interesting and  eye catching look like the way I have styled basic button up blouse and black pumps with trendy printed bottoms and accessories.
